Vinyl Record Artwork

I’ve said it many times here at DESIGN, but I love to find design inspiration wherever I find it – and one common place for me is in vinyl record artwork. And it’s not just me, of course – record artwork is something that loads of designers have a special place in their heart for. There’s something exciting about how there aren’t really any constraints – it doesn’t need to be business-like and it’s very likely that the design brief is extremely loose and allows for a phenomenal amount of creativity. It’s something that’s so widely popular that many designers end up creating their own concept artwork for their favourite albums (some of which is showcased in this post).

Of course, when the brief is incredibly loose and creativity is encouraged, it can be pretty scary knowing where to start – as you could go in almost any design direction and come up with an almost infinite number of different designs to show off one record. But worry not, for this post aims to bring together some inspiration for your next vinyl record artwork project, and hopefully it gives you inspiration for any design project you take on that allows for a huge amount of creativity – like postcards or posters.

So, without further ado, here is a collection of my favourite recently discovered examples of beautiful, stylish and creative vinyl record artwork. One thing to pay particular attention to is the colour palettes for each one, as in most cases that’s the thing that has drawn me to featuring them. As always, if you know of any other examples of record sleeves that deserve a special mention in this post, I’d love to hear from you – just drop me a comment below!
