While we often focus on print design (for good reasons, we’re a printing company after all), there’s still a special place in our hearts for all kinds of design, from graphic, to street art to mobile interfaces and pretty much everything in between. Lately I’ve been inspired by mobile app icons – possibly because of the announcement of the new iPhone, but also because I’ve noticed that over the years, the standard for app icons has consistently raised. The bar has been set so high that now a really well designed icon isn’t just enough to make you stand out from the crowd – it’s practically a necessity if you want your app to be downloaded and to sit on the home screen and see use.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for creativity however. Even though you have a tiny amount of space, you can still pack some personality and excitement into it (something that I often think about with business cards which, again, is something close to our hearts).
I’ve put together a collection of some of my favourite recent app icons, all of which I think do an amazing job of looking great and showing off some personality at the same time. I’d be happy to have any of these designs sat on my home screen, and hopefully you would too. If you know of any other creative mobile app icons that deserve a mention in this post, let me know in the comments below!
So there you have it – our roundup of the latest, most creative mobile app icons. Hopefully you’ve found this has given your creativity a bit of a boost, and as always if you know of any other examples that deserve a place in this list, I’d love to hear from you – just leave a comment below!
