Here at Print Express, we’re huge fans of print advertisements. While we often talk about all kinds of design including web and mobile, our true love is very firmly with all things print. I’ve got a bit of a love affair with print ads – ever since I read Ogilvy on Advertising, I’ve been intrigued by ads from the 50s, with their heavy focus on well-written copy and emotionally charged ideas. Today’s print ads seem to be very different – they’re much more visual, the copy is often incredibly sparse so as to be more impactful and instead of persuading you on a wide range of benefits of the product, they try to sell you on just one thing in particular.
Both styles of ads have their charm, and today we’ll be talking about modern print advertisements. These are the latest, greatest ads that I’ve come across recently. I’ve been struck by their bold design – most likely crafted that way to capture attention in an age where attention is scarce. Notice how most of these ads sell us on one particular feature – the car adverts are best at this, where the entire ad will be based around (for example) pedestrian safety for Volvo, or coverage even in remote locations for Vodafone. Taking these one specific features or ideas and making that the entire basis of the print advertisement seems to work well, as it helps to get one clear message across.
